Our mission is to prevent suicide and support living.
Rattle the Stars is a non-profit organization that provides community-based suicide prevention services. We believe that suicide prevention is not just about preventing death, but also about promoting living by creating a society that supports emotional wellness for everyone. Our services are guided by compassion and cultural awareness, and center the needs of those experiencing suicide.
We are a federal 501(c)3 charity (EIN 81-3198241) and an Illinois registered charity (#01072707). Our financial information is available here. All donations are tax-deductible.
Our Staff
Kim Bryan, Executive Director
Kim is a suicidologist providing community-based suicide prevention, education, and advocacy. She earned degrees in Psychology and Sociology and completed graduate studies in Sociology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dedicated to community action and individual advocacy, she has experience with crisis intervention, systems of care, and bullying prevention, and has worked with youth with mental illness and behavior disorders, youth involved in the juvenile justice system, survivors of sexual assault and abuse, and youth and adults with suicidal ideation. Following the suicide of her 19-year-old son, she left graduate school and founded Rattle the Stars to provide suicide prevention services to families, schools, and the community. Kim is a member of the Illinois Suicide Prevention Alliance, serving on the Adolescent Suicide Prevention Ad Hoc Committee, and a member of the American Association of Suicidology, serving on the Youth Suicide Prevention Committee and the Public Health-School/Education Committee. Kim is supported in her work by her husband Chuck and their three children. Their pyredoodle Lyra and tabby cat Jax provide 24/7 in-home emotional support.
